Arizona State left-hander Jon Switzer has been named Pac-10 Baseball Pitcher of the Week for April 17-23, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Switzer, from Houston, Texas, pitched a complete game on Friday night as the Sun Devils defeated Southern California in a 3-1 pitchers duel. Switzer scattered four hits over nine innings, allowing only one run with 10 strikeouts. The 10 strikeouts tied a career-high for the lefty. He held the Trojans to a .148 batting average at the plate and stranded eight USC runners on base, including two in both the eighth and ninth innings. It was his second complete game on the season. With the win, he improves to 9-1 on the year with a 3.17 ERA and 104 strikeouts.
The Pitcher of the Week honor is the third for Switzer this season and in his career, and the 41st all-time selection for Arizona State. Switzer has been named Pitcher of the Week more times this season than any other Pac-10 pitcher.
