SURPRISE, Ariz. - Oregon State pitchers Jake Postlewait and Jon Koller combined for a five-hit shutout of the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the first game of the inaugural Coca-Cola Spring Training College Baseball Classic at Surprise Stadium.

The Beavers evened their record at 2-2 after losing two of three last weekend at UC Riverside. Oklahoma State drops to 1-2 on the season.

Postlewaite, a junior left-hander from Corvallis, Ore., scattered four hits in five and a third innings to pick up his first win of the season. He struck out three and walked two in his second outing of the year. Koller, a sophomore who was an honorable mention freshman All-American a year ago at UC Irvine, finished off the Cowboys with three and two-thirds of shutout baseball. Koller allowed only one hit and struck out one in his third outing of the year.

Oklahoma State starter Joe Weaver was saddled with the loss, giving up six hits and three runs in three innings of work. Left-handed reliever Spencer Grogan did a nice job out of the bullpen, holding the Beavers to three hits and one run in six innings.

Oregon State was led at the plate by multi-hit games from left fielder Seth Pietsch (2x4, RBI) and Andy Jarvis (2x4, RBI). The Beavers started strong with three of their four runs in the first two innings, including a two-run first inning.

Oklahoma State catcher Jason Jaramillo was the only Cowboy to record one or more hit by going 2-for-4 with his third double of the year.

Oregon State continues tournament play tomorrow afternoon with a noon start against Gonzaga. The Cowboys face No. 5 Arizona State in the second game on Saturday at 4 p.m.
