Men's and Women's Cross Country Squads Ranked In Preseason Polls

TEMPE, Ariz. - For the second straight year, the Arizona State men's and women's cross country squads enter the season ranked in the Top 25. The women are ranked 10th by the FinishLynx poll, while the men are ranked 11th in the MONDO poll, the United States Cross Country Coaches Association announced Saturday., Sept. 2.

Led by last year's Pac-10 Coach of the Year Walt Drenth, the ASU women are the second highest ranked Pac-10 team behind conference and national preseason favorite Stanford. The men are fourth amongst Pac-10 foes included in the rankings, behind No. 2 Stanford, No. 5 Arizona and No. 9 Oregon.

Last year marked the first time ever the Sun Devil men cracked the Top 25 poll, while the women notched their first-ever preseason ranking. Both teams open the 2000 schedule at the UC Irvine Invitational Sat., Sept. 9 at Central Park in Huntington Beach, Calif.
