TEMPE, Ariz. - Baseball America named their top prospects from the 2006 Summer Baseball Leagues this week and Arizona State had three student-athletes on the list. Junior Eric Sogard, sophomore Ike Davis and junior Tim Smith were all named Top 10 prospects from their respective leagues, which wrapped up play last month.
Sogard, from Phoenix, was named the #5 prospect from the West Coast Collegiate League. The junior, who earned All-American and All-Pac-10 honors a year ago, won the batting crown while playing for Bend (Ore.) with a .347 average.
Davis (Scottsdale, Ariz.) played in only 22 games for the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaskan Baseball League after spending the first part of the summer with Team USA. Despite missing over half of the season, Davis was still named the #10 prospect in the league.
Smith, a transfer from Midland College, was named the #6 prospect out of the Northwoods League. The Toronto, Canada native showed off his bat while playing for Mankato, leading the league with 75 hits. He also stole 19 bases, drew 36 walks and scored 33 runs on his way to being named a postseason All-Star.
