TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State junior RHP Mike Leake has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced today. It marks the first time in his career that Leake has won a weekly award from the Pac-10. It is also the 52nd time a Sun Devil has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the week.
Thursday night Mike Leake and the Sun Devils faced off with the Missouri Tigers and Kyle Gibson in a highly anticipated match-up of two of the top pitchers in the nation. Leake out-dueled his Team USA teammate, carrying a no-hitter through seven innings before surrendering a hit in the top of the eighth. Leake shook it off, striking out the side to give him 10 Ks on the night. He improved to 2-0 on the year, thanks to his eight innings of 1 hit, shut out ball. He walked only one man, while fanning 10 Tigers in the 2-1 ASU victory.
Leake and the Sun Devils return to action on Thursday night when they host Holy Cross in the first game of a three-game series at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
