The Sun Devil cross country teams competed in the NCAA West Region Championships Saturday in Portland, Ore.
Arizona State: School record holder in the 3,000m steeplechase (8:35.04) after running the time to win his third Pac-10 title in a row, making him just the second male in conference history to win the event three times... also holds the school mark in the 5,000m run (13:40.18)... is a three-time All-American, including one in cross country and two on the track... will look to become just the second Sun Devil male to earn multiple All-America honors in cross country... 2006 Outdoor: Won his third Pac-10 steeplechase title in a row with a school-record 8:35.04 mark... also placed sixth in the 5,000m run to score for the team.... Finished second in the steeple at the NCAA West Region meet... won his preliminary heat at the NCAA Championships before placing third overall to earn All-America honors... reset the school record in the 5,000m run at the Cardinal Classic (13:40.18)... competed at every distance between 800m and 5,000m... won the 800m run at the Baldy Castillo Invitational and took second in the mile (4:04.3) at the Sun Angel Classic... his mile time is the eighth-best in school history... 2006 Indoor: Competed in the mile run three times, finishing sixth at the MPSF Championships... also competed in the 3,000m run once... 2005 XC: Redshirted while recovering from injury sustained at 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships... 2005 Outdoor: Set the school record in the 3,000m steeplechase at 8:38.16 to finish 13th in the preliminaries of the NCAA meet before earning All-America honors in the event... captured his second Pac-10 title in the steeplechase for his second win of the season (won the Double Dual as well)... placed third at the west region meet... set school record in the 5,000m run at 13:49.11 while placing fourth at the Oregon Invitational... won all three races at 1,500m with a personal best 3:44.04 at the Sun Angel Classic... 2005 Indoor: Competed in three races, placing second at the Double Dual in the mile and placing in the Top 8 in both runs of the 3,000m event... 2004 XC: Earned his first All-America honor by placing 22nd at the NCAA Champions... competed in six races, placing in the Top 10 five times... team's highest finisher in all six races he ran... led the team to second place finishes at Pac-10 and regional meets...highest finish of the season was third place both at Pac-10 and Dave Murray Invitational... selected as the men's Most Valuable Athlete at the team awards banquet... 2004 Outdoor: Won the 2004 Pac-10 Championship in the 3,000m steeplechase as well as securing the title in the same event at the NCAA West Region Championship meet... won the regional event in 8:42.79 to clock the second-fastest time in school history... also recorded the 10th-fastest mark in the 5,000m run... won the steeplechase three times on the season by taking the Double Dual, conference and regional meet titles... finished 17th at the NCAA Championships in the steeplechase...also competed twice in the 1,500m run, winning the event at the Bill Sawyer Invitational... 2004 Indoor: Did not compete... 2003 XC: Emerged as one of the top runners on the team, finishing first on the team in three of five races... was the race runner-up at the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson to open the season... top team finisher at the Pac-10 (18th) and NCAA West Region (28th) meets... was second to finish on the team in other races, including 22nd overall at the Roy Griak Invitational... helped the men win the ASU Invitational with third-place finish... 2003 Track: Redshirted... 2002 XC: One of the top runners for the Sun Devils all year... made his presence known at first meet of the year by placing fifth at the adidas Invitational to lead the team... finished second on the squad at Pre-National meet (35th overall) and the Pac-10 Championships (16th overall and third on the team... finished the year with a 32nd-place finish (fourth on the team) at the NCAA West Region meet.
High School: A 2002 graduate of Mountain Pointe High School (Phoenix)... established records in the one and two mile track events... won state championships in track at 1,600m and 3,200m... as a senior, won cross country races at the Doug Conley, Peaks, city, region and state events... captained cross country in 2001 and '02...also track team captain in 2002... three-time all-city and all-state selections (2000-02)... two-time all-region and all-East Valley honoree (2001 and '02).
