CORVALLIS, Ore.—In the same building where just two weeks ago, the Gym Devils left hanging their heads, the Arizona State women’s gymnastics rallied back for a redemptive third-place finish, Saturday, at the NCAA West Regional in Corvallis, Ore. Finishing with a score of 195.700, the Sun Devils’ third-place finish is the highest since 2006, besting their fourth-place finish from last season.

ASU concluded the meet with its best vault score of the season, going 49.225 in the event. In a climactic moment that brought her to tears, Sundby finished out the Sun Devils’ season scoring a career-high 9.900 on vault for the second-best score of the meet. ASU was able to count five scores of 9.8-plus. Sophomore Carissa Kraus and junior Samantha Seaman each added 9.850 vaults.

The Sun Devils kicked the meet into gear on floor. Arguably one of the team’s best events this season, Arizona State shined with four scores over the 9.8 mark. In successive order, the sophomore trio of Morgan Steigerwalt, Brianna Gades and Sundby added scores of 9.850, 9.875 and 9.875.

The Sun Devils started out on bars with senior Amelia Rew scoring the top score for ASU in her final meet with a score of 9.750.  On beam, Gades led the team with a score of 9.850. At the end of the meet, the Sun Devils hit 24 of 24 routines to finish the season on a high note and left everything on the floor. Both Georgia and Arkansas advance to the NCAA Championships with their top-two finishes.

Arizona State was the fifth seed in the NCAA West Regional but finished ahead of No. 10 Oregon State, No. 21 Boise State, and No. 32 Cal. The NCAA Regionals conclude the season for the Gym Devils.
