WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The 2013 All-Pac-12 Gymnastics team was announced on Wednesday by Commissioner Larry Scott, with grad student Kahoku Palafox named All-Pac-12 second team on bars.
Palafox, Arizona State’s top bar worker, tied her career-high of 9.900 on bars at Pac-12 Championships to help the Sun Devils finish strong in their final event. On the season the graduate student has record six scores of 9.850-plus and holds the three top bar scores for ASU.
In May of 2012, Palafox graduated magna cum laude with a degree in sustainability. She is a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic first-team selection and a 2012 Academic All-American. Palafox is currently pursuing a masters degree in Urban and Environmental Planning and working with Sun Devil Athletics and ASU Sustainability and Application to help implement more green and zero waste initiatives in athletics.
The All-Pac-12 team is determined by a combination of 50 percent regional qualifying score (entire season composite) and 50 percent Conference Championship score. The All-Conference team consists of the top six all-around competitors, plus the top three competitors in each individual event who are not among the all-around honorees. The Pac-12 second team in a ten member team that consists of the top two all-arounders who were not named to the first team (as all-arounders or in an event), after such the top two gymnasts from each event who were not yet named to the first team or the second team in the are selected to the second team.
