FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.—The Arizona state track and field teams picked up a pair of wins to open up the weekend’s competition on Friday at the Mountain T Invite at NAU’s Walkup Skydome.
Redshirt junior Ryan Leslie won the weight throw with a toss of 17.85m (58-6.75), a new personal best. The mark moves Leslie from 10th to eighth in ASU’s all-time list. Redshirt junior Kyle Lillie threw 16.04m (52-7.50) for fourth, and redshirt freshman Kyle Long took 10th with a toss of 14.26m (46-9.50).
In men’s pole vault action, redshirt senior Derick Hinch picked up his second win of the indoor season, clearing 5.15m (16-10.75) to tie for first. Redshirt sophomore Tanner Greeley set a new personal best with a clearance of 4.90m (16-0.75), while freshman Dillon Groener and redshirt senior Chris Manuele each cleared 4.75m (15-7.00) to tie for ninth.
Redshirt junior Alex Hartig took third in the women’s shot put with a toss of 14.81m (48-7.25), and redshirt freshman Ashley Weber took sixth with a mark of 14.44m (47-4.50).
Rounding out the Sun Devil competitors on Friday was junior Edmond Baker, who cleared 2.00m (6-6.75) in the high jump for fourth.
Competition continues on Saturday for ASU, with the second day of action at Mountain T for the rest of the throwers and pole vaulters, while the track side of the squad will be competing in College Station, Texas, for the Texas A&M Aggie Invite.
