FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.—The Arizona State track and field wrapped up competition at NAU’s Mountain T Invitational and Texas A&M’s Aggie Invite on Saturday with success both in the field events and on the track.
In Flagstaff, the Sun Devils went 1-2 in the women’s pole vault, with senior Heather Arseneau picking up her third win of the year as she cleared 4.07m (13-4.25) and senior Shaylah Simpson cleared a season-best 3.97m (13-0.25). Also in pole vault action, sophomore Andrea Kemmerrer cleared 3.52m (11-6.50) for a tie for 12th.
Sophomore Jasmine Gibbs took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.61m (18-5.00) and redshirt freshman Ashley Weber threw 17.44m (57-2.75) in the weight throw for sixth. Junior Jessika Byrd took seventh with a personal best throw of 17.15m (56-3.25) and sophomore Ginger Jarchow finished 13th with a throw of 15.13m (49-7.75)
In the men’s shot put, redshirt freshman Thomas Anderson took first place with a toss of 17.83m (58-6.00) and redshirt junior Kyle Lillie took fourth with a season-best throw of 16.85m (55-3.50). Redshirt senior Nathan Estes took fifth with a season-best 16.44m (53-11.25) and redshirt freshman Kyle Long threw 15.74m (51-7.75) for eighth. Also for the Sun Devils, redshirt junior Michael Ohakwe threw 14.43m (47-4.25) for fifth in the first flight.
In College Station, Texas, freshman Micha Auzenne qualified for the finals in the 60m dash with a time of 7.53 before taking seventh in the finals at 7.57. Auzenne also ran an 8.65 in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles, but did not qualify for the finals.
Junior Brianna Tate took third in the 400m with a personal-best 53.09, while freshman LaTroya Franklin finished eighth in her first-ever 200m dash with a time of 24.11. Senior Alycia Herring finished 24th in the 200m with a 25.05
The 4x400m relay team of Alycia Herring, LaTroya Franklin, senior Sarah Geren and Brianna Tate finished second to the host Aggies with a season-best time of 3:38.17. The men’s 4x400m relay team of Keith Cleveland, Devan Spann, Trae Armstrong, and Will Henry also ran a 3:12.67 for fourth.
In the men’s 60m dash, redshirt senior Ryan Milus qualified for the finals with a 6.78, and took fourth overall with a 6.71 in the finals. Redshirt junior Devan Spann took 12th in the prelims at 6.86, while freshman Marcus Setoki took 21st at 7.03.
Setoki finished 16th overall in the 200m with a 21.95, and seniors Will Henry and Keith Cleveland went 11-12 in the 400m with times of 47.91 and 48.27, respectively.
In the mile, redshirt sophomore Tommy Williams took third with a 4:10.03. Fellow redshirt sophomore Kevin Rayes ran a 4:14.85 for ninth overall, while CJ Albertson took 15th at 4:19.31.
Senior Garrett Baker-Slama and redshirt sophomore Daniel Wong went 4-5 in the 3000m with times of 8:23.65 and 8:24.82, respectively, while redshirt senior Steven Schnieders took ninth at 8:35.18.
Up next, the Sun Devils will split up once again with one portion of the team returning to Albuquerque, N.M, for the Don Kirby Invitational on Feb. 14, while the rest of the squad will trek to Seattle, Wash., for the Husky Classic on Feb. 14-15.
