Sun Devil Softball Head Coach Craig Nicholson has announced an addition to his coaching staff as Boo Gillette will join the Sun Devils after three years at North Carolina.

"I am really happy to be able to hire Coach Gillette as she joins Coach D'Arcy and Chelsey Broermann on staff," says Coach Nicholson. "She is an excellent recruiter, and excellent teacher and a top competitor. As a former player, she is a great role model for our current players."

Gillette joins the softball coaching staff for the 2013-14 after three years at UNC where she spear-headed recruiting and was the base-running and bullpen coach. Her coaching and playing ties range from Purdue to Wisconsin to Florida.

Nicholson, who was hired June 30, picked up Gillette after last week’s announcement that he was retaining associate head coach Chuck D’Arcy and director of operations Chelsey Broermann.

"I feel very blessed to become part of the Sun Devil Family,” Gillette said. “I look forward to continuing ASU's tradition of winning with the veteran staff of Coach Nicholson & Coach D'Arcy. I am very excited to coach the high caliber student-athletes that ASU attracts, compete in the Pac-12 Conference, and work towards winning the Women's College World Series while also graduating all of our student-athletes."

Gillette also adds she has long-held an admiration for the Sun Devil Softball program.

"I love the competitive nature and also the family environment that the coaching staff will bring to the ASU program," she says of a program that has posted a 123-10 mark at home in the past three seasons.  “I look forward to competing at the highest level in one of the finest athletic departments in America."

Before working with the Tar Heels, Gillette coached at Purdue from 2007-10 She coached five Big Ten players of the week, nine All-Big Ten conference team members and five TPS/Louisville Slugger All-Mideast Region players. The next year, they reached their first ever NCAA Regional Championship game.

Prior to Purdue, Gillette was head coach of Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wis., from 2006-07. The team was Region XIIIA runners-up with two pitchers ranking in the top 25 in strikeouts.

She made third-team All-Big Ten her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, and was UW's Most Defensive Player in 2002, after 331 putouts (good enough for third best in the Badger record books). She wasn’t just good on defense though, as in 2004, she was named the team's Most Offensive Player and MVP, setting single-season records for doubles (14), RBI (34), fielding percentage (.996), and a single-game RBIs (6). In her senior season Gillette was a Badger Female Athlete of the Year nomination after she made the Tulsa Invitational Tournament Team, was Big Ten Player of the Week and Team MVP.
