Ojai, Calif. - The freshman-sophomore pairing of Kassidy Jump and Joanna Smith defeated fourth-seeded Caroline Doyle and Amelia Herring in the Women's Doubles Invitational round of the Pac-12 Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
"I'm extremely excited for both Joanna (Smith) and Kassidy (Jump)," ASU head coach Sheila McInerney said. "I thought they played really well today and complemented each other's game."
The two Sun Devils continued their upset streak, defeating the two Cardinal players by a significant margin. In the Round of 16, Jump and Krawczyk defeated Allie Hueffner and Kadie Hueffner of Oregon, 8-3. The Sun Devil pairing also topped first-seeded Callie Craig and Sarah Pham of Utah, 8-4, in the previous rounds.
With the confidence from previous wins, another day of solid play from both Sun Devils secured a championship spot for the pairing.
"Kassidy was hitting big ground strokes and Joanna was putting the volleys away. Both girls served very well and played disciplined doubles," McInerney said.
The single remaining ASU pairing will compete for the championship in Ojai, Calif. on Sunday afternoon at 11:00 a.m. Live scoring will be available at Pac-12.com
