TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State University baseball players Mike Esposito and Rod Allen have been named to the 2001 Baseball America Summer League All-America Team. Allen and Esposito were both named to the second team.

Esposito, who was 5-2 with a 4.06 ERA as a starting pitcher for the Sun Devils in 2001, was 3-1 with a 1.56 ERA for Team USA over the summer. Joining former Devils Oddibe McDowell, Jim Austin, Willie Bloomquist, Casey Myers and Jon Switzer to wear the Red, White and Blue for Team USA, Esposito (Las Vegas) struck out 35 batters and walked only nine in 35.0 innings pitched. Esposito will be a redshirt sophomore for the Devils in 2002 after having "Tommy John" surgery in the spring of 2000.

Allen, a Freshman All-American for the Devils in 2001 while hitting .389 with 14 doubles, six home runs and 53 RBI, finished third in the Alaskan League with a .314 batting average. Allen led all players named on the Summer All-American team with 24 stolen bases and helped lead the Anchorage Glacier Pilots to the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series championship.
