Legendary former Arizona State baseball coaches Bobby Winkles and Bill Kajikawa will join author Bob Eger, for a signing of Eger's book, Maroon & Gold: a History of Sun Devil Athletics, prior to the annual ASU Alumni Baseball Game Saturday, Jan. 26, at Packard Stadium. The book signing will run from 1:00 p.m. until 1:50 p.m. The Alumni Game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
In addition to the regular hardcover edition of the book, a few limited-edition leatherbound editions will be for sale at the signing. The leatherbound book, which features signatures of several ASU sports legends, previously was listed as sold out, but the author recently made available for sale a few books that had been set aside for promotional purposes. They come with a certificate of authenticity for the signatures, which include Winkles, Kajikawa, Frank Kush, Ned Wulk, Baldy Castillo, Herman Frazier, Pat Tillman, Bruce Snyder and current coaches Pat Murphy, Dirk Koetter and Rob Evans.
Fans who previously have purchased copies of Maroon & Gold are invited to bring their books to the signing and game, which will present an outstanding opportunity to obtain autographs from former Sun Devil greats participating in the alumni weekend. Among those who have indicated they will attend are slugging star Bob Horner, Danny Ikeda from the Winkles era and more recent stars Willie Bloomquist, Andrew Beinbrink and Jon Switzer. Names of other participants will be released in the next few days.
A tournament hosted by ASU to open the regular season Jan. 31 through Feb. 3 at Hohokam Park in Mesa is named in honor of Kajikawa, who played baseball at Arizona State in the 1930s and coached the Bulldogs in the 1940s.
Maroon & Gold author Eger serves as analyst on radio broadcasts of Sun Devil baseball games.
