TEMPE, Ariz. - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association named sophomore second basemen Zack MacPhee the National Hitter of the Week, the NCBWA announced today. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. MacPhee was named Pac-10 Player of the Week and a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball.
MacPhee, a Phoenix, Ariz. native, was an offensive machine during the opening weekend for the Sun Devils, helping ASU to a three-game sweep of Northern Illinois. MacPhee went 8-for-11 for a .727 batting average and a 1.818 slugging percentage. For the weekend, he accumulated 20 total bases, thanks in part to his four triples. MacPhee scored seven times and drove in eight runs. He also drew three walks and stole two bases in the series.
