TEMPE, Ariz.- Arizona State freshman infielder Missy Hixon hit the game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning of the second game to help the seventh-ranked ASU softball team (33-13, 4-8 Pac-10) take consecutive shutouts against #10 Stanford (32-13, 4-8 Pac-10), 6-0, 1-0
Freshman pitcher Kirsten Voak pitched a complete game in the first game, striking out seven while giving up five hits. Voak recorded her 200th strikeout of her career in the first inning against Cardinal catcher Kellie Wiginton. Freshman Erica Beach went 2-for-4, scoring one run and also hitting a homer. She is now tied for first on the team for home runs with Chris Gill and Voak. They each have five homers. Centerfielder Jen Langenhuizen went 2-for-2, scoring twice. Freshman Nichole Thompson and junior Julie Adolph also scored runs. Four Sun Devils had doubles in the game.
The second game remained scoreless through the eighth inning.
