In his first game as a Sun Devil, junior Scott Goodman went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. The Arizona State pitching staff gave up no walks on the night, and was led by senior Charlie Williamson who picked the win for ASU. Williamson pitched two and two-thirds innings, striking out two, allowing no runs and no hits.

Head coach Pat Murphy was happy with the win.

"I was real pleased that our team didn't allow a walk in tonight's game"

For the Utes, left fielder Jed Chrisman led Utah, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Starting pitcher Troy Beckman picked up the loss, going three and a third innings, giving up seven hits, five earned runs and two walks.
