TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State baseball player Rodney Allen has been named the No. 13 prospect in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League by Baseball America. League managers and professional scouts voted the list, which included the top 30 players from the summer circuit.

Allen, who will be junior for the Sun Devils in 2003, impressed scouts and opposing coaches with his bat, speed and makeup, as he made the transition from left field to center field. Helping lead the Orleans (Mass.) Cardinals to the Cape Cod League Championship game, Allen hit .254 (36x142) in the prestigious wood bat league, connecting on two home runs and tabbed 15 RBI in 37 games.

The two-year starter for the Sun Devils carries a career .329 batting average heading into his junior year and is only one of 10 ASU players to ever record 100 or more RBI in their freshman and sophomore years. Allen, who had a strong finish to the 2002 season by being named to the Mesa Regional All-Tournament team, set a freshman school record in 2001 when he hit .389.

The son of former big leaguer Rod Allen Sr., also had a successful summer in 2001, helping lead the Anchorage Glacier Pilots to the NBC World Series title. Allen was named a second-team Summer All-American by Baseball America and was ranked as the No. 8 prospect in the Alaskan League.

Excerpt From Baseball America on Rodney Allen:
Another son of a former big leaguer (Rod Sr., currently a broadcaster with the Diamondbacks), the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Allen was one of the league's better athletes. He was nearly (Anthony) Gwynn's (Tony's son) equal as a center fielder and also impressed managers with his bat, speed and makeup.
