TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University baseball team lost 10-3 to UCLA on Friday night in the opening game of the Pac-10 series at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The Sun Devils committed five errors in the game, dropping to 38-15 overall and 16-9 in conference with the loss.

UCLA scored two runs in the first with the aid of two ASU errors in the inning. The Sun Devils battled back to tie the game with a solo home run by Zach Wilson in the second and an RBI double by Matt Newman in the fourth.

ASU took its first lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Riccio Torrez, but they missed out on an opportunity to add more when Wilson and Newman both struck out with the bases loaded.

The Bruins then jumped back in front in the sixth, scoring five runs, four of them unearned, off Brady Rodgers. UCLA added two more runs in the eighth and another unearned run in the ninth to cap off the scoring.

Rodgers gave up eight hits and seven runs, only three of them earned, taking the loss to fall to 8-4 on the season. UCLA pitcher Gerrit Cole gave up nine hits and three runs with nine strikeouts over eight innings to get the win.

The Sun Devils and Bruins will continue their three-game series on Saturday at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
