TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Former Arizona State Sun Devil baseball players Willie Bloomquist and Jeff Duncan hit their first career home runs in back-to-back days. Both players are recent products of the Sun Devil program that has produced 78 major league players.

Bloomquist, a utility player for the Seattle Mariners, started every game of a recent three-game series against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at third base. Bloomquist hit .500 (5-for-10) in the series with seven RBI. He hit his first career home run with a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning in Sunday's 13-2 win over the Devil Rays. He also added a two-run single to finish the game 2-for-5 with six RBI and two runs scored. Bloomquist, a native of Port Orchard, Wash., was an All-American under Pat Murphy at Arizona State from 1997-99, earning Pac-10 Player of the Year honors in 1999. He hit .394 during his Sun Devil career, including .414 in 1999 and .394 in 1999.

Duncan recently got recalled by the New York Mets from Double-A Binghamton and made an immediate impact hitting a leadoff home run Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies. In seven games with the Mets, Duncan is hitting .385 (5-for-13). Duncan played for the Sun Devils in 1999 and 2000 after transferring from Iowa State. In his two years as a Sun Devil he hit .358 (130-for-363) with 70 RBI and 38 stolen bases.

Former Sun Devils Paul Lo Duca (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Barry Bonds (San Francisco Giants) will be playing Tuesday in the annual Major League All-Star game at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago. Bonds heads into the All-Star game leading the major leagues with 30 home runs.
