Zechry Zinicola, PITCHER/UTILITY, 2004-2006
A versatile player who could throw a fastball by you or hit one out of the park, Zechry Zinicola wore many hats during his Sun Devil career. Appearing in 75 games as a pitcher, Zinicola won 10 games and also saved 18. His eight saves as a freshman in 2004 tied the school record for most saves by a rookie ASU pitcher, but Zinicola also garnered 100 at bats, hitting .280 and driving in 26 runs. In his career, Zinicola was a .276 hitter with five homers and 41 RBI to go along with his impressive pitching line. He was a member of the 2005 team that finished third at the College World Series and was a First Team Freshman All-American in 2004. He earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors that same year and was a sixth round selection of the Washington Nationals in the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft.
From 2000 to 2009, Arizona State baseball won 433 games, 157 Pac-10 games, appeared in the NCAA Tournament in each year and reached the College World Series three times. The Sun Devils won four Pac-10 titles, including the last three, finished in the Top 5 in the nation three times and saw 47 players earn First Team All-Pac-10 honors. Over the past 10 years, ASU has had six Pac-10 Players of the Year, two Pac-10 Pitchers of the Year, two Pac-10 Newcomers of the Year, a Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year, three Academic All-Americans, 33 All-Americans and a National Player of the Year.
