SURPRISE, Ariz. - The second ranked ASU baseball team beat FIU 4-1 in a rain-shortened game at Surprise Stadium to sweep all four games of the Coca-Cola Classic. The game was called with a runner on first in the top of the eighth inning when a heavy downpour began. With the win, Arizona State improves to 11-0 on the year.

Jake Borup got the start for ASU, going five innings and allowing one run on six hits. He struck out three and walked two, picking up the win to put his record at 3-0. Mitchell Lambson worked the final two innings plus, striking out four.

FIU starter Aaron Arboleya went five, allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out six. He took the loss to drop his record to 1-1.

FIU pushed a run across against Borup in the first to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Sun Devils pulled even in the third. Jordan Swagerty led off the third with a double off the wall and was brought home on a Drew Maggi single to right that evened things up at 1-1.

Arizona State grabbed the lead in the top of the sixth, scoring twice to go ahead 3-1. Maggi led off the inning with an infield single then went to second on a wild pitch. He would come around to score on an RBI single up the middle by Andrew Aplin. Aplin would later score on a Zach Wilson single to left. The Devils would add another in the bottom of the sixth when Swagerty scored from third when Maggi grounded into a double play.

The three-run lead would be enough, as the rain came and the game was called. Bad weather plagued the Surprise area all afternoon, causing the MLB Spring Training game between the Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants scheduled at Surprise Stadium to be canceled earlier in the day.

Jordan Swagerty went 3-3 for the Devils in the victory, scoring two runs. Drew Maggi and Zach Wilson each had two hits and an RBI.

The Sun Devils return home Tuesday night to take on Grand Canyon. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
