WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona State senior right-hander Jered Liebeck has been named Pac-10 Baseball Pitcher of the Week for Jan. 28-Feb. 3, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Liebeck, from Glendale, Ariz., turned in a complete-game, three-hit shutout against No. 13/16 Long Beach State to lead the Sun Devils to a 3-0 win on Saturday. Liebeck faced only 28 batters in the contest and allowed only one hit after the fourth inning. He had only one runner reach second base (1st inning) and retired 10 straight heading into the ninth, before he issued his only walk of the contest. Liebeck is now 2-0 on the season with a 1.35 ERA.
The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first such for Liebeck, and the 45th selection all-time for Arizona State.
Liebeck was also named the Collegiate Baseball and NCBWA National Player of the Week for his pitching performance vs. LBSU.
