TEMPE, Ariz.- Past Sun Devil baseball greats will converge on the Arizona Biltmore's Adobe Golf Course Friday, Nov. 12 for the Arizona State Baseball Alumni Golf Tournament.
Former ASU standouts such as Larry Gura (1967-69), Don Wakamatsu (1982-85), Blas Minor (1987-88), Mikel Moreno (1995-98), 1999 All-American Andrew Beinbrink (1996-99) and former ASU head coach Bobby Winkles (1959-71) are a few of the names comprising the 144-player field.
"This is a great way for our alums to come together, enjoy each other's company and reminisce," says ASU head coach Pat Murphy. "Each of these players helped create one of the greatest traditions in college baseball. Our rich history starts with them."
Says Winkles: "I'm thrilled to be there to see a lot of the old-timers that played years ago. I haven't seen a lot of the guys that played for me in awhile, although we do keep in touch. It will be a great day for all of us."
Tournament play gets underway with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The event is planned in conjunction with Arizona State's homecoming festivities, as baseball alumni will also tour Packard Stadium and attend a tailgate prior to the Nov. 13 ASU-Stanford football game.
