TEMPE, Ariz. -- Join Coach Pat Murphy and the 2000 Sun Devil baseball team as they join together to fight ALS. The 5K Walk will be held Sunday, Januray 9 at Tempe Town Lake at 8 a.m. (registration begins at 7 a.m.). Coach Murphy honors Catfish Hunter, Lou Gehrig and all of the heroes who lost their lives to ALS.
ALS is more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, was first detected 129 years ago. It is a fatal, neuromuscular disease that paralyzes the body, robbing once healthy and active individuals of their ability to speak, walk, swallow, move and breathe. Intellectual and sensory functions remain intact, leaving the individual painfully aware of what is happening.
Bring the registration form and your pledges to the registration area 7:00 a.m. at Tempe Beach Park (intersection of Rio Salado Pkwy. and Mill Ave.). Parking is at the America West building, on 3rd Street between Ash Ave. and Mill Ave.
The ALS Association Arizona Chapter is the only non-profit volunteer driven health agency dedicated solely to the fight against ALS through patient and family services, equipment loan, public awareness and funding of cutting edge medical research.
All proceeds of the 5K to Beat Lou Gehrig's Disease will benefit the programs and services of the ALS Association. Proceeds will benefit the Heroes of ALS.
For further details or to obtain a registration/pledge form, phone the 5K Hotline at 480-609-3888.
