TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State senior All-American catcher Casey Myers finished his career with a bang, picking up one more award before turning in the Maroon and Gold, earning a spot on the all-tournament team at the Fullerton Regional held this past weekend in Fullerton, Calif.
Myers, who by being named the 2001 Pac-10 Player of the Year became only the third player in Pac-10 history to earn the award in consecutive years, hit .625 (5x8) with four runs scored, a double, one home run and three RBI during ASU's three games in the NCAA Tournament. He also reached base six more times in the regional with three hit-by-pitches and three walks to accumulate a combined .786 on-base percentage in the tournament.
A four-year starter for the Sun Devils, Myers started all 58 games behind the plate for ASU during his senior year of 2001, helping lead the Devils to a 37-20-1 record and a 14-10, third place finish in the Pac-10. He led ASU in hitting at .395, hit seven home runs, finished second in the Pac-10 with 69 RBI and carded a team-high 29 multi-hit games. For his career, Myers was a .384 hitter to rank seventh (tied with Bob Horner) in school history and his 275 career RBI fell just eight short of the Pac-10 and ASU record of 283.
In 12 career postseason games, Myers hit .419 (18x43) with 11 runs scored, two doubles, four home runs and 15 RBI.
Myers, a 30th round draft choice of the Milwaukee Brewers last June, will wait and see where he will be drafted this June 5-6 in the annual MLB amateur draft.
