Box Score

SEATTLE, Wash. - The cold evening air in Seattle translated to cold Sun Devil bats, as Arizona State fell to the Washington Huskies 5-4 at Husky Ballpark. Washington's Nick Haughian out-dueled Josh Satow, lasting seven innings and allowing only three earned runs to send Arizona State to their third straight defeat. The loss drops ASU to 21-10 on the year, 2-2 in Pac-10 play.

The Sun Devils banged out 12 hits, but 11 of them were singles as ASU stranded 11 runners. In their last three losses, the Sun Devils have stranded a total of 35 runners. On the other side, Washington was aided by seven free passes issued by ASU pitching. This is the sixth straight time the Huskies have won the series opener with Arizona State. It was the seventh one run loss of the season for ASU.

Brett Wallace gave the Devils an early lead, singling home Tim Smith in the top of the first to make it 1-0. Washington battled back in the second, pushing two runs across off Josh Satow. Arizona State pulled even in the third, when Tim Smith singled home Andrew Romine.

The Huskies scored twice off Satow in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. The Sun Devils would tie it up in the fifth, scoring twice with two outs to make it 4-4. Petey Paramore doubled home Eric Sogard, then Paramore came around to score on an error by the Husky second baseman.

Washington took the lead back in the seventh, scoring one off Satow to make it 5-4. That would be all the Husky bullpen would need, as Nick Hagadone shut down any chance of a Sun Devil rally to pick up the save.

Satow threw his third complete game of the year, allowing five runs on nine hits. He struck out five but also walked seven batters. Satow falls to 7-2 on the year.

Ike Davis and Matt Spencer each went 2-4 in the loss.

The Sun Devils and Huskies will continue their series tomorrow afternoon from Seattle. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. from Husky Ballpark.
