Sun Devil Jordan Bachynski set a Pac-12 season record for blocks in 2012-13 with 120. He has 181 in his career and needs another 98 to set the Pac-12 career record. So what does a Pac-12 record holder do in the summer to get better? Well go to Portland and then hopefully China and Russia with his national team is one thing.

Bachynski is representing Canada along with 15 others at a training camp in Portland at Canada's Student Team Training Camp through Friday (June 7). Selected team members will travel to China June 8-20 to compete in nine international games and the team also will compete in the FISU games in Russia July 6 -17. The FISU Summer Universiade, also known as the World University Games, features the top tier of student athletes from across the globe competing in the largest international sporting event outside of the Olympic Games. The event will take place in Kazan, Russia from July 6 to 17.

Portland Trail Blazer assistant Jay Triano is the head coach, and the team is training at the state-of-the-art Bo Jackson Fitness Center located at Nike World Headquarters.

Other notables on the roster include Kevin Pangos (Gonzaga), Dwight Powell (Stanford) and Kyle Wiltjer (Kentucky).

Bachynski earned Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honors in 2012-13 after setting the league record with 120 blocks. He has 181 career blocks and the Sun Devil career record is 191, held by Mario Bennett from 1991-95. The Pac-12 career record is 278 held by Arizona's Anthony Cook from 1986-89.

Jordan shot .583 from the field last year, the second-best mark in the league behind Arsalan senior Kazemi of Oregon (.595).

After not playing his senior year in high school (2007-08) due to an injury and then taking two years off from hoops for LDS Mission to Miami (2008-10), Jordan (ba-CHIN-ski) has developed into a solid post presence. One thing to keep in mind about his development is how two of ASU's past big men developed, as in his senior year (2008-09) Jeff Pendergraph led the nation in field goal percentage (.660) en route to become the first pick of the second round in the 2009 NBA Draft, while Eric Boateng, who played for the 2012 Great Britain Olympic team, led the Pac-10 in field goal percentage in his senior season of 2009-10 (.665). In the past 48 games, his scoring has reached near double-digits and his field goal percentage is near 60 percent.

His 13 points, 12 boards and school-record 12 blocks vs. Cal State Northridge on Dec. 8 is the only triple-double in Sun Devil history. It marked first triple-double by a Pac-10/12 player since Daniel Hackett had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 dimes vs. South Carolina on Nov. 17, 2007. The 12 blocks is tied for the second-most by a Pac-10/12 player along with Stanford's Brook Lopez, who had a dozen vs. USC on Jan. 25, 2007.
