Arizona State baseball player Casey Myers (Casa Grande, Ariz.) was named a 1998 Freshman second-team All-American by Baseball America today.
Myers batted .386 on the year with eight homeruns and 58 RBI. His 71 hits was fourth on the squad and his 17 doubles was second. He started 48 of 51 games for the Devils as the designated hitter or at first base. His slugging percentage of .609 tied for tops on the team. Myers was perfect in the field, posting 55 putouts and no errors. He also excelled in the classroom with a perfect 4.0 his first semester.
Myers is currently in Managua, Nicaragua with the USA Baseball National Team playing in the World Championships Qualifier.
Myers was also a Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America selection as well as a third-team NCBWA All-American.
