TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior third baseman Andrew Beinbrink and junior shortstop Willie Bloomquist were honored as second-team selections on the 1999 National Collegiate Baseball Writers All-America teams. Junior second baseman Mark Ernster was a third-team pick.

Bloomquist, a native of Port Orchard, Washington, was recently drafted in the third round of the MLB Amateur Draft by the Seattle Mariners. Bloomquist hit .394 this season with a team-leading 100 hits. His 22 career triples ranks third at ASU and second in the Pac-10 conference.

Beinbrink, who hails from San Diego, California, was a seventh round selection by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays earlier this month. Beinbrink ended his four years at ASU as the school and conference leader in RBI. He batted at a .402 clip in '99 with a team-leading 85 RBI.

Ernster, a local product from Glendale, was a sixth round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 1999. Ernster led the team in batting average this year with a .439 the second highest single-season batting average in school history. He was honored as a 1999 first-team GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American last month.
