Bloomquist Hits Solo Shot as USA Baseball Defeats Japan
ASU standout helps Team USA to 4-3 victory.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona State's Willie Bloomquist went 2-for-5 including a solo homer as the USA National Team defeated the Japan College Stars, 4-3, at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Arizona.
Team USA had four runs on 10 hits with no errors while Japan collected three runs on 10 hits with one error in the matchup. Winning pitcher for the USA was Ryan Mottl who went seven innings allowing seven hits, one earned run, two walks and four strikeouts. Matt Ginter picked up his third save of the season pitching 1.2 scoreless innings. Sun Devil Casey Myers went 0-for-4 at the plate as the designated hitter.
Bloomquist is batting .284 through 28 games with the USA National Team with five doubles and one homerun. He has stolen five bases (tied for second on the squad). ASU's Casey Myers is hitting at a .269 clip (7-for-26) with two doubles, one triple and six RBI. He has been perfect in the field with 12 putouts and no errors.
The USA National Team (19-9) opens a four-game series with Mexico
on Wednesday night at Hi Corbett Field. Game time is set for 7:05
p.m. local time. Jon McDonald (0-0, 1.80 ERA) is slated to start
for the Americans.
