YUMA, Ariz.—The Sun Devil Caravan heads to Yuma, Ariz. for the third stop on its inaugural tour on May 19th. The Yuma stop will be headlined by Sun Devil football head coach Todd Graham, new wrestling coach Zeke Jones, men’s basketball coach Herb Sendek, women’s basketball coach Charli Turner Thorne, soccer coach Kevin Boyd, and Vice President for University Athletics Ray Anderson.
All Sun Devil alumni and fans are invited to Gowan Company from 6-7:30 p.m. for the Sun Devil Meet and Greet. The event, which features drinks and appetizers, gives Sun Devil Nation a chance to interact one-on-one with the ASU coaching staff and administrators.
The tour starts with Sparky’s Tour pep rally for local students at James R. Rolle Elementary. Sparky’s Tour, which has traveled around Phoenix for several years, is a youth education assembly where Sun Devil student-athletes interact with children and teach the value of personal character and healthy living. The program focuses on the six character traits using the acronym S.P.A.R.K.Y. – Self-discipline, Positive, Active, Respect, Knowledge and Yourself.
Following Sparky’s Tour, the Sun Devil coaching staff and Sparky will visit children hospitalized in the pediatric unit of Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC), while Sun Devil student-athletes will have an opportunity for service work at the Yuma Food Bank.
Led by Pac-12 Coach of the Year Todd Graham, Sun Devil football defeated UCLA for the 2013 Pac-12 South Title and hosted Stanford in Tempe for the Pac-12 Title game for a shot at the Rose Bowl. Sun Devil Athletics is moving forward on its exciting Momentum Campaign to redesign Sun Devil Stadium and in January announced the hire of Anderson, the former executive vice president of football operations for the NFL, as its new Vice President of University Athletics.
