TEMPE, Ariz.—In an effort to connect and engage with its fan base, Sun Devil Athletics announces the launch of the Social Media Command center, which will keep Arizona State in the forefront of the ever-evolving social media landscape.
“We are utilizing social media to build on the relationships we have with Sun Devil fans here in Arizona and across the globe,” said Rocky Harris, Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations. “Reaching out to our fans and creating an interactive and engaging experience is of the utmost importance and we are looking forward to using the social command center to directly talk with our fan base.”
The room, which has yet to be named, is completely dedicated to engaging with fans, monitoring trends and conversations, providing real time feedback and creating a complete interactive experience for Sun Devil Nation.
To kick off the interactive experience, Sun Devil Athletics wants ASU fans to help create the official name for the Social Media Command Center. From Mon., Aug. 5-Thurs., Aug. 8 use the hashtag #Vote4SMCC to cast your vote and have a voice in the naming process. The winning submission, announced Fri., Aug. 9, will win an opportunity to operate the command center during a Sun Devil football game.
The “social media think tank”, which includes four wall-mounted monitors to live stream social interactions with Sun Devil Athletics on its eight social media platforms, will also focus on the fan experience, customer service, and providing fans with accurate, up-to-date information in real time.
To better enhance engagement, Sun Devil Athletics will utilize the @SparkyArizonaSt twitter handle to directly interact and converse with fans while continuing to use the @TheSunDevils twitter handle as the primary resource for Sun Devil Athletics news and information.
In addition to day-to-day conversations with the Arizona State fan base, the command center will bunker down for Sun Devil football games and provide a real-time interactive social experience including the capability to post fan tweets directly to the video board for home games. There will be opportunities for fans to win a chance to visit and help with social media operations from the command center as well as chances to engage and interact with Sun Devil athletes and coaches.
On Wed., Aug. 7, the command center will host its first interactive experience with a live tweet-up with Steve Patterson, Vice President for University Athletics. Beginning at 10 a.m., fans can tweet their questions to @SWPatterson and the Arizona State AD will respond live from the social media command center.
