ASU Men's Hoops Notes/Statistics at UCLA Get Acrobat Reader

NEED TO BE ROAD WARRIORS
The Sun Devil men's hoops team (20-8; 9-6) and its 4-3 road record will need some more of that as it travels to UCLA and USC this week and then Arizona next Saturday to finish its regular season. The Sun Devils are 5-2 against the other top six teams in the league, with two wins over Colorado and single wins over UCLA, USC and California. ASU has notched its fourth 20-win season under Coach Sendek in his seven years, something that ASU did just three times in the prior 25 seasons to his arrival in spring of 2006. Wednesday's game features the top two freshmen scorers in the nation in UCLA's Shabazz Muhammad (18.2) and Sun Devil Jahii Carson (17.5).

NOTE ON JAHII'S NUMBERS
Jahii Carson is averaging 17.5 points and five assists through 28 games this year. Only one freshman in the past sixteen years has averaged 17 points and five assists, as Ben Woodside produced those digits in 2005-06 for North Dakota State (17.5 points and 5.1 assists). Previous to Woodside, the last freshmen to notch those digits was Shaheen Holloway of Seton Hall back in 1996-97, when he finished at 17.3 points per game and 6.3 assists.

FAMILIAR FACE
A coach that had two of those Sun Devil 20-win seasons will be courtside Wednesday for the UCLA 8:30 tip. Bill Frieder will be on the air on national radio for Dial Global Sports along with John Tautges, and Coach Frieder led ASU to the Sweet Sixteen in 1995, two NCAA Tournaments (1991 and 1995) and 132 wins (second in school history) in his eight seasons in Tempe. For the Pac-12 Network Ted Robinson and Don MacLean have the call. The UCLA tilt will be on Pac-12 Network (radio 620 AM in Phoenix and Sirius/XM 91) while the USC game will be on FOX Sports Net, 860 AM and Sirius 139/XM 195.

RANDOM
ASU leads the loop with its .449 field goal percentage in league games and is averaging just 11.0 turnovers per game in 15 Pac-12 games, second only to Stanford's 10.9...ASU will try and sweep UCLA for just the fourth time in 35 Pac-12 seasons (also in 2008-09, 2002-03 and 1979-80) and USC for just the seventh time and only second time in past 18 seasons (also last year)...crazy numbers for Jahii Carson in the second half of Pac-12 road games are 13.0 points, 28-of-50 from the floor (.560) and 6-of-9 (.667) from three...in the six Pac-12 road games Jahii is averaging 21.2 points, 37.5 minutes, and is shooting .538 (50-of-93) from the field.

BLOCK PARTY
ASU has a school-record 180 blocks in 28 games (6.6 per game) which is sixth in the nation. UCLA holds the Pac-12 record for blocks with 199 in 2010-11. ASU blocked 10 of UCLA's 72 field goal attempts in its 78-60 Jan. 26 win over the Bruins, as ASU held the Bruins to just 25-of-72 (.347) from the field. In Coach Sendek's first six seasons (197 games) at ASU, the Sun Devils had nine blocks four times. It has had at least nine blocks nine times this season. An overlooked block statistic for junior Jordan Bachynski is keeping it in play. Of his 104 blocks, 65 have resulted in possession for ASU. He has 165 career blocks and the Sun Devil career record is 191, held by Mario Bennett from 1991-95. He needs just 12 blocks to set the Pac-12 season record, and the the top three spots on that chart are Sun Devils.

PAC-12 SINGLE SEASON BLOCKED SHOTS LEADERS
1. 115 - Mario Bennett, Arizona State, 1994-95
2. 113 - Rodger Farrington, Arizona State, 1996-97
3. 103 - Jordan Bachynski, Arizona State, 2012-13

CARRICK NOTES
Carrick Felix has been solid in the past 10 games with six double-doubles and just 11 turnovers in 368 minutes. He is averaging 13.7 points and 8.1 rebounds in that time and has 10 steals. He has eight double-doubles in 14 Pac-12 games and 11 overall both of which are tied for the league lead.

VS. UCLA
Jordan Bachynski's had career-highs in points (22) and rebounds (15) in the Jan. 26 win vs. UCLA and tossed in six blocks...ASU's +20 rebounding margin vs. UCLA (53-33) was its best in a Pac-12 game in Coach Sendek's seven seasons and its 10 blocks were second-most in the 123 Pac-12 games under Coach Sendek (ASU had 13 vs. Colorado on Jan. 6, 2013)...UCLA entered the game as the Pac-12 leader in field goal percentage at 47.7 percent coming but shot a season-low 34.7 percent...ASU's 53 rebounds vs. UCLA is the most by any Pac-12 team in a conference game this season.

IRON MAN
Through 15 Pac-12 games, Jahii Carson is averaging 37.9 minutes (second to Cal's Allen Crabbe at 38.0) while Carrick Felix is third at 37.6. Jon Gilling is seventh at 35.5.

ABOUT THE LINEUP
After using 23 starting lineups in the past two seasons and having 14 Sun Devils make a start in that time, ASU was one of six teams to have used the same starting lineup in every game this season...until Feb. 16 at Colorado. Chris Colvin started in place of Evan Gordon. How did Gordon do off the bench? If you consider 14 points, four three-pointers in 30 minutes and hitting a game-winner at the buzzer a good day, he did quite well. ASU used its third starting lineup on Senior Day when Ruslan Pateev replaced Jordan Bachynski.

DON'T WANT TO FORGET THIS
In ASU's Feb. 2 96-92 loss at Washington, Jahii Carson gave the Huskies 32 points, tied for fourth-most by a freshmen in a Pac-12 road game. Only O.J. Mayo (twice) and Roberto Nelson of Oregon State have had more. Jahii had 22 points in the second half (8-of-14 from floor) with three assists, two steals and no turnovers and his stats in the final 5:01 were ridiculous: 12 points, two assists, one steal and perfect in two three-pointers and four free throws and he had his first dunk.

#FUN2CJAHII
Jahii Carson is averaging a Pac-12 best 36.6 minutes per game, the best mark by a freshman in Sun Devil history (the Beard lighting up NBA averaged 34.1 in 2007-08) and most by a Pac-12 frosh since O.J. Mayo averaged 36.9 in 2007-08. How does that compare to other freshman this year? No Pac-12 freshman is averaging more than 30.9 minutes per game (Jordan Loveridge of Utah is at 30.9)...has set the school freshman mark for assists with 140, breaking the 28-year old mark of 114 set by Bobby Thompson in 1983-84...crazy numbers for Jahii in the second half of Pac-12 road games are 13.0 points, 28-of-50 from the floor (.560) and 6-of-9 (.667) from three...in the six Pac-12 road games Jahii is averaging 21.2 points, 37.5 minutes, and is shooting .538 (50-of-93) from the field...notched his 12th 20-point game vs. Washington State on Feb. 23. The only Sun Devil freshmen with that many are James Harden (16 in 2007-08) and Ike Diogu (12 in 2002-03)...in nine games away from home Jahii is averaging 21.1 points, 4.1 assists, 37.3 minutes and is shooting 53 percent (72-of-135).
