TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Major League baseball playoffs are set to start Tuesday, and five former Arizona State Sun Devil baseball players will be in uniform gunning for a spot in the 2000 World Series.

Former Sun Devils Barry Bonds (1983-85) and Doug Henry (1983-85) both play for the National League Western Division Champion San Francisco Giants. Bonds and Henry were teammates during the same years under legendary head coach Jim Brock and led ASU to consecutive College World Series appearances in 1983-84.

Bonds is having an MVP-caliber year with the Giants, batting .306 with career-high 49 home runs, 28 doubles, and 106 RBI. Henry came to the Giants in mid-season from the Houston Astros, and is 4-4 with one save and a 3.84 ERA in 2000. The Giants will meet the New York Mets in the first round of the playoffs.

Other former Sun Devils playing in the 2000 playoffs include Sean Lowe (1992) with the Chicago White Sox, Fernando Vina (1990) with the St. Louis Cardinals and Gabe Molina (1996) with the Atlanta Braves.
