Swimming Great Agnes Kovacs Named to International Swimming Hall of Fame

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Former Arizona State swimmer and Olympic gold medalist Agnes Kovacs was named to the 2014 International Swimming Hall of Fame Class and will be inducted on June 14 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Kovacs, the gold medalist in the 200m breaststroke at the 2000 Olympic Games, is one of the most accomplished swimmers in ASU history. She was a 15-time All-American during her time at ASU, where she still holds four top-three times in school history, including the current school record for the 200-yard breaststroke.       

Other accomplishments for Kovacs include a silver medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in the 200m breaststroke, as well as winning the Pac-12 championship in the same event in 2002. 

Kovacs graduated with a degree in supply chain management from Arizona State in 2005. She is currently married and lives with her husband and child in Hungary, where she is a PhD student at the Semmelweis University Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences.

The International Swimming Hall of Fame & Museum was established in 1965 as a non-profit educational organization in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. It was recognized by FINA, the international governing body for the Olympic aquatic sports, in 1968.
