Hey Percy, don't forget our guy Jon Gilling...

Saw a blog from Seattle Times hoops writer Percy Allen, who covers the Pac-12 as well as anyone not named Doug Haller. In his midseason awards blog, he listed his five-man All-Freshman team and it was solid, but one person needs to be considered in for that group when you look at the Pac-12 only statistics.

While Washington's Tony Wroten is a clear winner for the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year at this point, another five seem to be in the race as those that should make up the remainder of the five-man team. Take a look at where Sun Devil Jon Gilling stands up to the other four in Pac-12 only statistics when compared to Spencer Dinwiddie (Colorado), DaVonte Lacy (Washington State), Nick Johnson (Arizona) and Chasson Randle (Stanford).

In Pac-12 stats, Gilling has averaged more minutes than any of the other four, is shooting better than three of them and has the best three-point percentage (.429) despite attempting the most among all freshmen. The 6-7 Gilling also is the leader in assists among the other four (29), a full nine ahead of Randle, and just one dime behind the point guard Wroten.

Much more Pac-12 hoops to be played, but Pitchfork Posts decided that Gilling's slow start probably needs to be forgotten. He wasn't able to attend summer school, so he fell behind on everything early. Think of it this way....in his first eight games he averaged 8.8 MINUTES. In his past 12 he has averaged 8.8 POINTS.

Gilling High On Pac-12 Assists List With A Bunch Of Guards...

    | No TrackBacks
There is no question that Sun Devil freshman Jonathan Gilling has impressed a few folks with his overall game and passing ability, especially in Pac-12 play. He posted a season-high seven dimes vs. Washington State on Saturday, and also had six at Arizona (Dec. 31) and five vs. Oregon (Jan. 12). He is averaging 3.2 assists per game through nine Pac-12 games, which is tied for 10th in the  league. Taking a look at the leaders and one thing stands out...everyone on the list is basically a point guard but Jon. And he is second among freshman to Washington's Tony Wroten.

    Reggie Moore, WSU (5.7)
    Lazeric Jones, UCLA (5.7)
    Jorge Gutierrez, CAL (5.4)
    Justin Cobbs, CAL (5.0)
    Jerime Andereson, UCLA (4.4)
    Abdul Gaddy, UW (4.1)
    Chris Colvin, ASU (3.6)
    Aaron Bright, STAN (3.4)
    Tony Wroten, UW (3.3)
    Jon Gilling, ASU (3.2)
    Jared Cunningham, OSU (3.2)

    More Gilling notes...
