    PRESEASON WEEK 2

Time for another update! The days when the scores and records actually matter are around the corner. But there has been another transaction that I think Sun Devil Nation should hear about. WR Brandon Smith was signed to the Seattle Seahawks preseason roster, joining former Sun Devils Zach Miller, Dexter Davis and Paul Fanaika. The Seahawks now boast the most former Sun Devils of any NFL team with four.

    Other notable performances this week:

Dimitri Nance helped out with 4 carries for 28 yards and a fumble recovery for the Packers as well.

Tampa Bay Buccaneer Rudy Carpenter went 6/10 for 68 yards passing against the New England Patriots.

Terrell Suggs was taking it easy with two assists in the Baltimore Raven's win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Derek Hagan had three catches for 32 yards with his new team the Oakland Raiders in their rivalry game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Travis Goethel registered five tackles against the 49ers.

On the other side of the ball, 49er Kyle Williams had two catches for 25 yards against Oakland Raiders

Zach Miller now with the Seattle Seahawks, had one catch for 11 yards against the Minnesota Vikings

LeQuan Lewis now switching to cornerback on the Tennessee Titans from his Sun Devil receiving days registered one tackle against the St. Louis Rams.

Arizona State University welcomed in the Class of 2015 today in the annual Sun Devil Welcome. Freshmen started the ceremony cheering for their particular college (W.P. Carey School of Business & Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering were especially loud). Ultimately, all of the different colleges and the four campuses were united at the end when they were introduced to Sun Devil traditions and student-athletes.

    By Guest Blogger Jamarr Robinson
I wake up only to go back to sleep for 10 minutes. Thinking about last night's practice and if today will be as tough. I some how make it to 7 a.m. workouts. A combination of running and lifting weights always leaves the legs feeling like jello and before I even think about getting to class Bryce, our trainer, tells me to come in for rehab or I won't have time before practice. Forty-five minutes go by in the training room and I keep thinking to myself, I always have to rush to class. After I ice my injury I jet to the 5th floor to get what's left of team breakfast.

Not much of a surprise as I notice the only food left is fruit and yogurt. Packing some for the road, I get to class as fast as I can, jello legs and all. Sitting at a desk that doesn't fit my body and uncomfortable for hours at a time, I listen to a voice that resembles a historic father figure that doesn't understand the next generation.

I just remembered I ran blitz backer blue yesterday in the scrimmage when I was suppose to run backer red. My coach will kill me for that one. Class is finally over and I have to make it to my tutoring session on time so I won't see consequences later on in the week. Usually being late to anything related to football will get you the upper deck of SDS on Friday at 6 a.m. and being accountable to our teammates and the program is what counts the most. The ICA is filled with athletes as I look for my tutor. He calls me over and in a split second a teammate of mine does the same. We laugh for a second and then it's back to work.

As I go through all my assignments and achievement plan for the week, I forget to get taped and stretched before meetings. Most of us do this to avoid the training room being so crammed right before practice. Getting to meetings on time is first priority right now, though. Trying to lock in as I step into the meeting room, I notice players have come in early to watch yesterday's practice. Half way through meetings I'm getting yelled at for not getting the call right yesterday, as I mentioned earlier. An hour of that can do wonders for one's self esteem.

Meetings are over and I rush to get dressed, taped up and stretched before practice. I make it to the tram half-dressed and with my ankles taped and think of clever ways to stretch on the ride to the practice field. Finally, the best part of my day. A physically and mentally tough practice leads many to think this is harder then a game but even still this is a time I have no worries in the world. It's as if once you step foot on that grass, the stress of the world starts to disappear. The only way I can really describe it is that feeling you always had as a child growing up, you know before the bills and duties of being an adult. You're free, invincible, and confident; it's the feeling of being 6'7" when you're only 5'10" and now that feeling is over as the last practice whistle is blown. Even with the excitement of a solid performance at practice I can't help but think about the 10-page paper I have to finish by tomorrow morning. 24/7, 356.
