The Arizona State athletic department has finished 11th in the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings as ASU's top-10 finishes in baseball, men's and women's cross country and women's golf led the way to its ninth straight top-20 finish.
Pat Murphy's baseball squad led the way with its great run through the College World Series as it finished 42-25 and was ranked third by both Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association.
Louie Quintana's cross country teams both notched top-10 finishes, as the men finished an ASU-best eighth and the women ninth.
Women's basketball notched a top-20 finish, as Charlie Turner Thorne's squad went 24-10, finished the season ranked 16th and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. The 24 wins was just one win shy of the school record.
Dirk Koetter's football team went 9-3 and ended 19th in the national rankings after its win over Purdue in the Sun Bowl.
Both swimming/diving teams notched top-20 finishes under swimming coach Mike Chasson and diving mentor Mark Bradshaw. The women's program finished 12th, while the men's team finished 20th.
Fourth-year wrestling coach Thom Ortiz led his squad to a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championships and also won the Pac-10 title.
Greg Kraft guided the men's indoor track team to a 12th-place finish while his outdoor team placed 17th.
The Sun Devils were one of seven Pac-10 teams in the top 20, as the conference had nearly twice the number of any other conference.
