Frequently Asked Questions

Do you give scholarships?
--No. At this point in time, ASU does not offer any scholarships or financial aide through the Cheerleading Department. We are working on getting BOOK SCHOLARSHIPS/STIPENDS for our team members who are at a 3.0 GPA or above. We hope to further develop this scholarship program each year.

Do you have an all-girl team?
--No. The ASU CHEER team is co-ed. We are not looking to develop an all-girl team at this time.

Do freshmen make the varsity team?
--Skills and your ability to get into ASU are the only criteria to make the team. In order to be a top-ranked team, we need to keep our standards high. Your all-around skills are what we will be looking at to determine what team or level you belong to.

Do you have to be a flyer to cheer on ASU?
--That depends on YOU! Now that you know we are a co-ed team, it is to your benefit if you are trying out to be prepared. If you have NEVER co-ed stunted before, then you need to find someone who'll teach you - private lessons, local cheer gym, etc. Tryouts are very competitive and it is only based on skill. Potential is hard to judge, but skill is obvious. Do you need to be able to "fly" on ASU's team? Yes. Do you have to be a flyer in highschool to do it, not necessarily.

What games do you cheer for?
--We are responsible for cheering at Football and Men's & Women's Basketball. We also do promos and fundraising to represent the university.

Do you have a DANCE TEAM?
--Yes, but they are not in the same department as CHEER. Dance info can be found through the ASU Band Department. (www.asuband.org)

Where can I buy ASU CHEER T-Shirts?
--Unfortunately we buy our own shirts and do not sell them. However, we are looking into that as a fundraiser for next year.
