MILWAUKEE – Marquette used hot shooting and a game-turning 17-2 scoring run in the fourth quarter to upset the No. 18 Arizona State women's basketball team 75-63 on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles (3-0) shot 61 percent for the game, including 40 percent (6-15) from long distance against the Sun Devils (2-1), who fell for only the fourth time in their last 25 road games.
Five Marquette players scored in double figures led by Natisha Hiedeman, who ended with 23 points and knocked down five of the Golden Eagles' six triples in the game.
Freshman guard Robbi Ryan scored 19 points (8-14 FGs) to lead the Sun Devils, who shot 42 percent for the game and 21 percent (3-14) from long range. Also scoring in double figures for the Sun Devils were senior posts Sophie Brunner (13 points) and Quinn Dornstauder (10 points). Dornstauder also had a team-high eight rebounds to help the Sun Devils end the game with a plus-four advantage on the boards. (32-28).
Trailing 50-42 in the final minute of the third quarter, the Sun Devils were able to cut the deficit to six heading into the fourth quarter after Brunner scored on a layup. Brunner's basket started a 7-0 run as a layup by Kiara Russell and a 3-pointer from Ryan got the Sun Devils within a single point, 50-49 with 8:21 remaining in the game.
Hiedeman would answer with a triple on the opposite end to put the Golden Eagles back up by four. The Sun Devils would keep the pressure on as Kianna Ibis knocked down a jumper to get ASU back within two, 53-51 with 6:15 remaining.
Marquette would respond again as Amani Wilborn's 3-point play once again made it a two-possession game, 56-51, and ignited a 17-2 over a stretch of 3:13 that would put the game out of reach.
While the Golden Eagles hit all seven of their shots during the scoring run, the Sun Devils missed all three shots they attempted, went 2-6 from the free throw line and committed three turnovers.

Following Saturday's outing, Brunner (988 career points) now needs 12 points to reach 1,000 for her career, while Dornstauder (two blocks vs. Marquette/95 career blocks) needs four blocks to move into a tie for fourth place on ASU's all-time list and five to move into a tie for third.
