#22 Tennis Finishes Michigan Invite on High Note#22 Tennis Finishes Michigan Invite on High Note
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The final day of the Michigan Invitational was one of the best across the board for the Sun Devil women's tennis team, as they captured six of the seven singles matches against DePaul and two of the three doubles match-ups against No. 14 Michigan.

"I was really pleased with the way we finished today," said head coach Sheila McInerney. "The doubles in particular were very good, as we played solid tennis and all three teams feed off each other's energy. Overall, it was a valuable weekend and should help us for the start of the dual meet season next week."

The duo of last year's Pac-12 Champion Alex Osborne and junior transfer Nicole Fossa-Huergo had the match of the day, as they upset No. 29 Brienne Minor and Mira Ruder-Hook of Michigan, 7-5.

In the other ranked doubles match, No. 36 Kelley Anderson and Savannah Slaysman couldn't stay perfect with the upset of No. 4 Kate Fahey and Alex Najarian. Fahey and Najarian captured the doubles title for the weekend, defeating the ASU pair 6-3.

As far as the best of three goes in doubles, the Devils would have captured that point over the 14th-ranked Wolverines, as Kassidy Jump and Sammi Hampton defeated Chiara Lommer and Valeria Patiuk, 6-2, in the final match.

In singles, five of the six matches ended in straight sets for the Devils.

Jump, ranked No. 63, was upset in singles by No. 87 Yulia Shupenia of DePaul, 7-5, 6-4.

No. 49 Hampton cruised to a 6-1, 7-6(3) win over Patricia Lancranjan of DePaul in the other top match-up of the day.

Freshman Savannah Slaysman, junior Kelley Anderson and senior Alex Osborne were the only three Devils to finish undefeated in singles at Valley Tennis Center.

In all three of her matches, Osborne won in straight sets, including her final dual against Ana Vladutu, 6-2, 6-1. Furthermore, no opponent scored more than two points against her in any single set.

Slaysman dictated her match with Marina Cozac, 6-3, 6-2 on Monday. She also showed she can win close battles, taking her three-set battle on Sunday.

After appearing in the semifinals of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, Anderson has continued her success on the court as a Sun Devil. Today, she won straight sets over Keisha Clousing, 6-4, 7-5.

The Devils return to the court this Friday, as they host their first opponent of the 2017 season in Northern Arizona at 1 p.m. MST. They'll have Saturday off followed by another dual with UC-Davis on Sunday at 11 a.m.
