HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. – No. 4 Arizona State women's golf shot the lowest first round of the tournament before finishing the day second after 36 holes of play at the Windy City Collegiate Championship.
Sophomore Olivia Mehaffey topped the individual leaderboard throughout the first round with a career-low 65 before teammate Linnea Strom took over the top spot after the second round with a pair of 68's (6-under). Mehaffey finished the day in sixth place.
Mehaffey's 6-under 65 is good for the third lowest 18-hole score vs. par in Sun Devil history.
"We had a very long day on the golf course," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "We started off strong in the morning but gave back a few shots in the afternoon round. This is a good golf course with fast greens. We learned a lot today and are ready to come out and compete hard tomorrow and finish strong."
Roberta Liti (T27), Raquel Olmos Ros (T48) and Madison Kerley (T51) rounded out the Sun Devil team. Notably Mehaffey (round 1, hole 18) and Olmos Ros (round 2, hole 16) each eagled a hole on Monday.
As a team, ASU shot even on the day while No. 8 Oklahoma State currently sits in first (-8) and No. 10 Michigan State (+2) follows closely behind in third.
The Sun Devils will tee off with Oklahoma State and Michigan State between 9:00-9:36 am CDT/7:00-7:36 am MST/AZT on Tuesday in a third and final round of the tournament.
