TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 5 Sun Devil women's golf team earned an invitation to the prestigious East Lake Cup by virtue of winning last year's national title, as the tournament will feature the men's and women's NCAA semifinalists from 2017.
"This is such a cool event and the East Lake Cup has such an amazing history," says head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "I love this format and am excited to bring my team to Atlanta to experience the event. We've got a target on our back from beating two of the three teams in the NCAA championships last year, but we are very excited to have this opportunity."
The three-day tournament takes place from Monday, Oct. 30-Wednesday, Nov. 1.
RANKINGS
In Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings, Linnea Strom (9) and Olivia Mehaffey (14) are ranked in the top-15.
As a team, the Sun Devils are ranked No. 5 in the nation while Strom (12) is ranked by Golfweek individually.
THE FIELD
The tournament features the men's and women's semifinalists from the 2017 NCAA championships.
On the women's side, ASU headlines the participants as the reigning national champion, as well as 2017 NCAA runner-up No. 10 Northwestern, 2015 national champion No. 6 Stanford, and 2015 East Lake Cup champion No. 14 USC. Notably three of the four semifinalists from NCAA's hail from the Pac-12.
The men's side includes reigning national champion No. 12 Oklahoma, NCAA runner-up and 2016 national champion Oregon, two-time East Lake Cup defending champion Illinois, and No. 10 Vanderbilt.
Stanford's Albane Valenzuela (3) and Andrea Lee (5) are also ranked among the top in the world.
THE VENUE
The East Lake Cup will be held at Atlanta's East Lake Golf Club, home of the TOUR Championship, the season-ending event of the PGA TOUR's FedExCup Playoffs.
The Club is the home of legendary golfer Bobby Jones and is Atlanta's oldest course. The Club is not only historic and prestigious but philanthropic.
The East Lake Cup benefits the East Lake Foundation, which supports families and children through community revitalization, mixed-income housing, cradle-to-college education, and community wellness.
The East Lake Golf Club is located at:
2575 Alston Drive SE
Atlanta, GA 30317
There will be free general admission and public parking at the course.
SCHEDULE
