Playing against their foes up north, the Arizona State men's basketball team cruised to a victory in a 97-62 rout against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night. The win extends the Sun Devils to a perfect 3-0 while keeping the Lumberjacks winless at 0-3.
ASU has scored 90 points in all three games this year, something that hasn't happened at ASU since Jan. 30-Feb. 6, 1993
Improving on his Sun Devil debut on Tuesday, redshirt freshman Romello White led the team with 25 points, six rebounds and two blocks. White got to work quickly, dominating from the post, drawing fouls and making his presence felt on the defensive end.
Arizona State dazzled the fans throughout the game with an array of dunks, blocks and three-pointers to keep the crowd roaring.
The Devils led the entire game, going on a 15-3 run to start things off. Arizona State never looked back, improving their lead as the game continued to progress. The Lumberjacks never got a chance to dig into the Sun Devil lead as ASU forced 24 turnovers.
Arizona State played the game with balance at every level and on both sides of the floor. The team shot .524 (33-of-63) from the field while getting 12 steals and holding the Lumberjacks to a .317 (19-of-60) from the field. Adding to the balance, the team scored on the inside and outside, putting up 42 points in the paint while also hitting 11 threes for a total of 33 points from outside.
The Devils had four other players enter double figures themselves, including the tandem of guards, Shannon Evans II and Tra Holder, putting up 20 points and 12 points respectively.
With Holder's 12 points tonight, he passes former Sun Devils Arthur Thomas and Jahii Carson to take sole possession as the No. 20 all-time scorer in Arizona State history.
Up next, the Sun Devils will look to continue their perfect record when they play at home against UC Irvine this Sunday, tipping off at noon.
