TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 6 Sun Devil wrestling team will have their first big test of the young 2017-18 season, facing No. 3 Michigan on Friday, Nov. 10 (5 pm MT), a match taking place at Detroit Catholic Central High School in Novi, Mich.
 
Here are seven things you should know leading up to the match:
 
  1. The 157, 174, and HWT bouts will be especially ones to watch as wrestlers on each side are ranked in the three weight classes: #14 Josh Shields vs. #6 Alec Panteleo (157), #1/2 Zahid Valencia vs. #4 Myles Amine (174), and #3/4 Tanner Hall vs. #2 Adam Coon (HWT).
  2. ASU returns eight conference champions (Josh Maruca, Josh Shields, Tanner Hall, Anthony Valencia, Zahid Valencia, Ryan Millhof, Jason Tsirtsis, Christian Pagdilao), four All-Americans (Hall, Z. Valencia, Millhof, Tsirtsis), and one NCAA champion (Tsirtsis) while Michigan returns six All-Americans (Stevan Micic, Alec Pantaleo, Logan Massa, Myles Amine, Kevin Beazley, Adam Coon) and one conference champion (Domenic Abounader).
  3. The Sun Devils have one of the top five toughest schedules in the nation and the No. 1 toughest out-of-conference schedule according to FloWrestling. Michigan has the No. 2 toughest OOC schedule.
  4. Sun Devil head coach Zeke Jones is an Ann Arbor, Mich. native, graduating from Ann Arbor Huron High School (1985) before attending Arizona State (1985-1990). He won an Olympic Silver Medal (1992) and World Championship (1991) and was the head coach of the 2012 US Olympic Freestyle Wrestling Team before returning to his alma mater. Ann Arbor, where the University of Michigan campus sits, is approximately a half hour southwest of Novi, where the dual will be held.
  5. ASU assistant coach Lee Pritts also has Michigan ties, wrestling for Eastern Michigan, where he was an All-American in 1996.
  6. Jim Sinadinos, a member of the 1988 National Championship team at ASU, competed for Dewitt High School in Dewitt, Mich. In 2018, ASU will honor the 30th anniversary of the national championship team on Jan. 20 vs. Oregon State.
  7. The match will take place at Detroit Catholic Central High School, home of Sun Devil Brendan O'Donohue, who competed for ASU in the late 1980's. Current Wolverines Malik Amine, Myles Amine, and Kevin Beazley also attended DCC.
