TEMPE, Ariz. -- On Friday, Sun Devil Hockey released its 2017-18 regular season schedule, which features 13 home and 18 road games. The Devils open the regular season at home against UMass-Amherst of Hockey East on Oct. 6-7. Their first road trip comes immediately following, as they make the short trip to Colorado Springs, Colo. to face Atlantic Hockey conference champion Air Force on Oct. 13-14.

The schedule features several top-ranked programs, five NCAA tournament qualifiers from 2017, four conference tournament champions and two regular season conference champions. Three opponents -- Penn State, UMass-Lowell and Boston University -- are all ranked in the top-10 of the final USCHO poll, and all will be coming to Arizona in 2017-18.

"I think the most exciting thing about the schedule is that our home fans get to see so many high caliber Division I programs at home this season," said head coach Greg Powers. "Boston University, UMass-Lowell, Quinnipiac, Princeton, Penn State, and UMass-Amherst are all big-name, high-end programs. While we are building our program and exposing the Valley to college hockey at the highest level, there is no better way to do it than continue to expose local fans to the absolute best product possible on the ice. I think its safe to say we are doing that."

Penn State recently won the Big Ten tournament and were a game away from the Frozen Four. The Nittany Lions, who are ranked No. 8 entering the offseason, will be finishing the final part of the home-and-home by coming to Tempe, as the Devils traveled to Happy Valley last season.

UMass-Lowell -- who came in at No. 4 in the final USCHO poll -- captured the Hockey East conference tournament title in 2016-17, and were also a goal away from advancing to the Frozen Four this season. The Riverhawks shared the Hockey East regular season championship with Boston University and Boston College.

The Terriers -- ranked No. 6 in the final poll -- featured 11 NHL draft picks this past season, with three of them departing for the NHL so far. Like Penn State, Air Force and Lowell, BU was eliminated in the round of eight, as they lost by a goal to eventual NCAA runner-up Minnesota-Duluth. The Devils therefore play all four teams eliminated in the round of eight.

Along with Air Force, the Devils collide with two other opponents who finished in the final USCHO poll, including Michigan Tech (No. 19) on the road and Quinnipiac (No. 20) at home. MTU won the WCHA Conference Tournament in 2017 as the No. 2 seed.

The schedule also features two programs from the NCHC, including Nebraska-Omaha and Colorado College.

ASU's official season begins on Oct. 1, 2017 with an exhibition game against Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), who finished as runners up in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) this past season.

Home games have yet to be decided
