TEMPE, Ariz. – Head swim coach Bob Bowman and head dive coach Mark Bradshaw announce the signing of two future Sun Devils to join the Arizona State swimming and diving program next season as part of the spring signing period.
Evan Kolde (Southlake, Texas) and Frida Kaellgren (Malmo, Sweden) will make the trip to Tempe this fall to join the swimming and diving teams, respectively, joining a large class of incomers announced in November.
Evan Kolde (Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll Senior High School | Breast/Free)
Evan Kolde was a Texas 6A State finalist, earning All-American consideration in the 100 breast over the past two seasons and finished in the top five at the 2017 Speedo Sectionals in February.
At the 2017 state championships, Kolde helped lead the Dragons to a seventh consecutive state championships in record-breaking fashion, setting a new state point record by 32 points. He was also part of the first-place 200 medley relay team, which set a season best and school record for All-American honors.
The Southlake, Texas native will graduate from Southlake Carroll Senior High School this spring and competes for the North Texas Nadadores in North Richland Hills.
"I chose ASU for its amazing team, coaches, and outstanding business school," said Kolde. "I believe it's somewhere I can achieve my long-term swimming goals and be part of a great team."
Frida Kaellgren (Malmo, Sweden | 1 Meter/3 Meter)
Frida Kaellgren, whose specialty is the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard, competed in the European Junior Diving Championships in 2016, finishing seventh and 12th, respectively. She also competed in the 2016 European Aquatics Championships in 2016.
"I'm very excited to add Frida to our team, one of the better European age-group divers out of Sweden – very athletic and can do a routine of dives with a strong degree of difficulty," said Bradshaw. "She is already pretty talented, but we'll be able to get her to the next level."
With current Sun Devils Mara Aiacoboae and Rebecca Deacon and fellow incomers Ashley McCool and Sarah Bathe, Kaellgren joins a group of women's divers that Bradshaw calls "probably the strongest group we've ever had on the women's side".
