NORFOLK, Va. – The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has announced their Scholar All-America teams and individuals, recognizing teams that have a combined 3.0 GPA or higher and individuals that have achieved a 3.50 GPA or higher.
Of 173 women's teams, Arizona State had the eighth highest team GPA in the nation during the spring 2017 semester (3.65).
The Sun Devil women earned the highest spring 2017 GPA in the Pac-12 while the men finished second in the conference in both team GPA (3.33) and number of individual Scholar All-Americans.
Individually, 16 total Sun Devils between the men's and women's teams earned individual honors (8 men, 8 women). This marks four more individual honorees than a year ago for ASU.
Richard Bohus, Christian Lorenz, Andrew Porter, Kendall Dawson, Chloe Isleta, Ingibjorg Jonsdottir, Silja Kansakoski, and Kat Simonovic earned First Team honors while Reid Elliott, Juanjo Garcia, Heikki Makikallio, Youssef Selim, Alysha Bush, Emily Glinecke, and Bentley Hulshof were named Honorable Mention.
In diving, two of three ASU men's divers who were key competitors – Heikki Makikallio and Youssef Selim – received academic accolades.
The accolades come on the heels of one of ASU's best years in swim & dive in recent history, as the men were named the Most Improved Team in the nation while the women were named the second Most Improved in the country.
