TEMPE, Ariz. -- Head coach Graham Winkworth, and the Sun Devil Soccer team, announced Friday the addition Angela Boyle to the 2017 roster.
The Anthem, Ariz., native arrives in Tempe after spending the last two season with the Oklahoma Sooners. While in Norman, Boyle made 34 appearances in the crimson and cream, including 18 starts a season ago.
As a true freshman, the 2015 season, Boyle made three starts for the Sooners and tallied three shots on the season. She showed incredible growth in her second season of collegiate soccer, appearing in 22 matches, including 18 starts. The versatile defender tallied a career-high 23 shots, including eight that were on goal to finish the season with a respectable .348 shot on goal percentage.
Prior to joining the Sooners, Boyle was a standout soccer player with Boulder Creek High School, twice earning Defensive Player of the Year honors, including the 2013 season where she also claimed Player of the Year accolades. Boyle was a two-time All-Division second team selection following the 2011 and '13 seasons, en route to becoming a three-star recrouite (Top-Drawer Soccer) and being the No. 45 ranked player in the Southwest / Rocky Mountain region.
"I am delighted to add Angela to the squad," Winkworth said. "She is a powerful center back who is used to winning at both the club level for Del Sol and in the NCAA's. We needed to add some strength to our back line and bringing Angela home is a perfect fit. There is a lot of top talent in the state of Arizona and I hope that over the next few years we can continue to keep the top players playing in front of their family and friends."
